It's really sad what Christmas has become. I'm not a man of God. I'm more a man of science so I'm not talking about the religious implications. However anymore it seems it's all about what you buy and how much you spend. You even have car companies getting in the act, suggesting if you really love her buy her a car. Or jewelry stores telling you to drop a grand on a diamond. In all this madness of black Friday and the constant pressure to spend spend spend....Isn't Christmas a day were we simply let those we love and care about know that they are appreciated and not taken for granted. Have we really gotten to the point that the measuring stick of how much someone means to you or how much you love someone is measured by how much you spend on them??? "Just a thought"

"santa" appeared in the US in the 1830s in advertisements. norman rockwell firmed up the jovial red suit white trim guy with coca-cola in the 30'-40s. santa became standardized.

in my younger days when i worked with kid's camping programs we'd have "christmas in july" can't remember where i stole the idea from. we'd decorate trees in the woods. BUT the decorations all had 2 be edible 4 the birds & critters.

fun way 2 teach biology without the kids catching on that they're learning something...ew! that would be gross!

outside of colombus ohio, i have dear friends living close to a natural life. hubby is a banker. we still need a paycheck to pay mortgage/taxes.
7th kid recently out of the shoot (normally i'm 0 population standard)
all kids are home schooles, the 12 yr old bakes the family's bread, self raised chickens provide eggs & occassional meat, the family is primarily vegetarian.

1 child is lactose intollerent so 2 goats provide milk & homemade cheese....it goes on. they sound amish but they're not. read the mother earth news, it's THAT lifestyle.

Xmas gifts are preserves, honey from their 3 hives, or something canned, baked or homecrafted. Ur not going to get a necktie or cufflinks at xmas from these guys. the sweater i got 5 yrs ago was knitted by mom & her then 5 yr old princess. today it looks like maybe it went thru the washer twice.color me brand new!

Ur kind-o-people & there are MANY like them. R U ready to move out of the city??? i'm not.

I say titties are titties.

On a more serious note, commercialism isn’t the only issue. Different sects or churches (or even political parties) have tried to hijack the concepts and methods of observing Christmas. I stopped playing “Keeping Up With the Christians” a long time ago(like I need a seasonal excuse to buy a big ticket item or to sacrifice a virgin (Winter Solstice reference);)

Christmas is never anything more or less than you allow yourself to believe. Christmas is in the heart, not under the tree.
